How to Embrace Change

Falling Into Fall

Fall is upon us, and the hustle and bustle of Summer is coming to a close. The weather is becoming colder, keeping us indoors and cozy. This is a great time for reflection, the quiet, slow change during fall. The trees are changing, becoming a new version of themselves before they drop their leaves and prepare for the Winter cold. We too can be like the trees. Ebbing and flowing with nature.

Reflection. The colder weather can be hard to embrace, but we can take it as a new beginning, a new season. By reflecting on the warm, sunny Summer days and remembering that this warmth will come again, we can morph into a more hibernated and relaxed version of ourselves.

Stay present. Embrace the change of the seasons, view it as a restart, a refresh. Create a reality in which you do not wish for a different time of year. Stay present and lean into the weather, the coziness, and the calm. Practice meditating, deep breathing, and noticing the little moments around you that make life so special and sweet.

Connect. Look around you and see how many people love and appreciate you. Use the slower time to really see your loved ones. Hug them. Feel the connection. Just like trees, we are all connected by our roots. We are all humans, moving through the world doing the best we can. Take this and allow it to flow into those around you. We are stronger together.

Slow down. Taking a rest can be scary. Change is scary. Maybe you have just finished a Summer job, internship, or you are immersed in the change of the seasons. Shifting perspectives from viewing change as something to fear to a natural part of life can be incredibly healing for anxiety. Embody the trees during fall and change your leaves, become a different version of you. Embrace it. Don't shy away. It's okay, you are okay.

This Fall, I have experienced many changes in my life. I am scared of these changes, but every day, by reflecting, staying present, connecting, and slowing down, I am turning these fears into opportunities. It is not an easy task, shifting the mind, but it can be done through practicing ways that make you feel the most connected to yourself and your energy.
