Reflecting on the Metabolic Health Day Conference 2025

Connection and Community

We attended the 2025 Metabolic Health Day Conference in Tucson on October 9th-11th. The three jam-packed days were filled with educational and inspiring talks, connections with like-minded people, and, most importantly, the determination to make change.

Dr. Nasha Winters and the MTIH team led the conference in a graceful, powerful, and grounding experience. Overall, it's about getting back to balance and rooting for our metabolic health by using a terrain-centered approach.

The best part? The oxytocin (the powerful neurotransmitter AKA "love hormone") levels were running rampant between the attendees, presenters, and exhibitors. We spend so much time with screens between us on Zoom, in virtual webinars, trainings, and meetings that being together IN-PERSON, hugging, laughing, and crying together felt like the best

medicine.

Breathtaking Speakers

Each speaker brought a different outlook on what Metabolic Health means and how it connects to the terrain and our whole being.

The most notable speaker was obviously Sara Stratton, our very own consultant, who rocked her mic-drop talk during community day. "Exercise as the 11th Terrain" is powerful and so true. When we move, we support detoxification through the lymph, balance blood sugar, and build metabolic flexibility. It’s a signal of life. It wakes up our cells, boosts mitochondrial energy, and keeps the body’s terrain flowing and responsive.

Day one and the first keynote speaker was Dr. Zach Bush (fangirling!). Zach reminded us that true healing starts with connection with nature, to each other, and the world. "Life is the concentration of light energy." Sunlight is the source of energy for everything on earth; every cell, plant, and organism is a vessel of captured sunlight. The same diversity that makes soil fertile also supports metabolic health and our microbiomes. This incredibly grounded perspective shows us that sunlight is critical for supporting metabolic balance.

Day two, we had the honor to listen to Dr. Mindy Peltz, another fan girl moment! Mindy was on fire during her talk, where she educated the audience on women's hormone transformation during menopause. Did you know that women's bodies completely shift how they produce insulin during menopause? I did not. She enlightened us on the benefits of fasting for women and the general public for regulating hormones and promoting metabolic health. Who's ready to fast?

During the Farmer's panel on day one, our lovely friend Dani Kusner brought on a sixth panelist and arguably the most important guest of the whole conference. The sixth panelist was the Earth, represented by some water, plants, and soil. Although Earth didn't say much, her presence was felt. Our nutrients come from the Earth, so eat real food, meet a farmer, and care about where and how your food is grown, sourced, and distributed.

New Daily Practices

The whole conference opened my eyes to simple and free practices that we can do each day to support our well-being.

  1. Get sunlight! As mentioned above by Zach Bush, we are light and we need sunlight to survive. Try to get 10-15 minutes of sunlight a day to recharge your energy source. Eating fresh, organic vegetables can also help promote mitochondrial energy.

  2. Drain your lymphs! Perry Nickelston reminded us of how important the lymphatic system is in our body to reduce chronic pain and illness. Lymphatics are the cleanup crew; they drain unnecessary buildup and clear the way, allowing for better flow throughout the body. Watch this YouTube video on Perry's "Big Six" lymphatic drainage routine and do it every day!

  3. Be aware of technology and radiation. We live in a world full of EMF's and it is virtually impossible to block all of these negative radiation waves from our devices. Dr. Devra Davis reminded us that we can make little changes that have big impacts.

    1. Charge your phone across the room at night and put it on airplane mode to reduce EMFs.

    2. Research EMF blocking systems that can help cleanse your space and protect you.

    3. Reduce the time you spend on your phone, and get kids away from devices. Go outside, read a book, play a board game, stretch, meditate, journal, or learn a new hobby.

Final Takeaway- Mental Health & Well-Being

During the last panel of the conference, it was all about the importance of strengthening and nurturing the mind and emotions for Metabolic Health. We heard from Raj Jana, the owner of Liber8, along with many others who spoke from the heart on the importance of facing our emotions and helping with the stressors that we cannot see with the eye. Dr. Nasha closed the conference out by expressing the importance of mental, emotional, and stress resilience, and that in the book, The Metabolic Approach to Cancer, she would now put this terrain first, not last.

I found this to be incredibly powerful; there is no way to heal the body physically if the mind is lagging. We must look inward at ourselves and promote our emotional well-being alongside all of the medical and physical practices. We cannot move forward on our journeys if we are stuck in stress and negativity. Our emotions are important. Do not shy away! Journal, reflect, meditate, meet with a therapist, talk to your loved ones, do what you need to do to keep your mind alive and open to healing and balance.

Thank YOU!

I want to close this blog by thanking everyone who made this conference a possibility and created a space for connection and empowerment. Thank you to the MTIH team, Dr. Nasha, Cindy, Alex, Jess, Kyla, Janet, Lynn, and anyone I forgot to mention. You rocked it!
