Supporting the Mind and the Body.
Exercise is an essential factor of the Metabolic Approach to Health. It isn't always about what you eat but how you treat your body overall. Movement is key because it can help regulate blood sugar, reduce inflammation, improve sleep, balance hormones, and support emotional well-being. The mind matters as much as the body. Choosing movement that aligns with your lifestyle is a crucial step for supporting Metabolic Health. This summer has been full of activities that bring us joy, and we want to share them with you!
Biking
Biking is a popular sport for people all around the world, whether it's a cruise through your neighborhood or a more adventurous mountain trail. It gets your blood pumping and your mitochondria fired up. It can be low-impact while still being highly energizing, and a good way to improve cardiovascular health and lymphatic flow. Biking can be done alone or shared with family members and loved ones, which can help promote connection and boost our favorite hormone and neurotransmitter - OXYTOCIN!
Why we love it:
Supports detox and circulation.
Strengthens heart and lung function.
Boosts endorphins.
Feels freeing!
Hiking or Walking
Getting exercise outside doesn't have to be complicated or gear-driven; it can be simple and just as effective. Going on a walk around your neighborhood or hiking in the mountains and trees are both powerful forms of movement. Hiking especially invites you to be one with nature, which can reinforce a feeling of peace or meditation. This feeling can also be found on a simple walk if you choose to focus on your breathing or do a guided meditation. The possibilities are endless!
Why we love it:
Builds strength and stamina.
Supports stress resilience and nervous system balance.
Encourages vitamin D absorption.
Fosters deep connection with the natural world.
Paddle Boarding
I don't know about anyone else, but paddleboarding may be the most peaceful Summer activity ever. Just imagine gliding across a lake, river, or calm ocean where the water is cold, refreshing, and a deep, beautiful blue. Not only is paddleboarding soothing, it is a full-body workout that improves balance and core strength while still being gentle on the joints. It is also fun to do it with friends, especially if they tip over :)
Why we love it:
Engages the core and helps with balance.
Builds muscle while calming the mind.
Offers a unique, floaty perspective on movement.
Often ends with a jump in the water — nature’s cold plunge!
